Many babies were killed last Tuesday in Bakersfield by abortionist Kenneth Wright, while a few women received the good news which was offered by pro-life sidewalk evangelists. Here are a few selected reports from last week's ministry activities:
But now Judith herself is pregnant, and at only 15 years old, she felt like abortion was her only option. So, on Monday she came to the abortion mill with her 19- year-old boyfriend, "Boyd." Terri talked to them before they entered, trying to get them to come across the street to the LifeHouse to watch a video about abortion, but Judith said she wanted to first find out how far along she was. She promised to watch the video after she came out. The killing center staff told her that she was 17 weeks pregnant, urging her to let them start the two-day D&E abortion method immediately by saying "after today you will be too far along" (even though FPA often aborts older babies).
Nevertheless, Judith left the killing center, and came with Boyd to the LifeHouse to watch the "Harder Truth" video. After seeing the video, both of them were in tears. Boyd said he couldn't even finish watching. Terri then talked to them for a long time about their situation. Judith said she will keep the baby, but she will need to hide her pregnancy from her mother for as long as possible. Terri made an appointment for Judith with an obstetrician, and will take her to the doctor's office. As they left, Terri gave Judith a baby gift, baby clothes, a teddy bear, and a "Hope for the Future" Bible.
Johanna was already in the back signing papers; she had just signed the statement saying "I am having this abortion of my own free will." But Peter insisted that he must talk to her before the abortion. After talking to Peter, Johanna eventually came out, but still seemed determined to abort the baby. She told Chuck "don't talk to my boyfriend anymore, and went back inside." Peter went back to the LifeHouse, and his eyes puddled up as he told Terri "she didn't change her mind." In just a few minutes, however, she came back out, ran over to Peter and gave him a hug. As they drove off, Peter stopped and told Chuck, "she didn't go through with it!"
"Yara" recently found out that she is pregnant with her third child, but due to financial problems caused by a recent business catastrophe, she felt that she could not afford to pay for another expensive hospital birth. Although she and her husband are both born- again Christians and attend a local Charismatic church, her husband said she should just "flush it out" (referring to the baby). On Wednesday, Yara looked in the Valley Yellow Pages under "abortion", and called the FPA abortion chamber to schedule an abortion, but she only heard a pre-recorded message. As the phone book laid open, the ad for LifeSavers caught her eye. "I just couldn't stop looking at that baby," she said. After a while, she called LifeSavers, and bared her soul to Terri. Through several extended phone conversations over the following days, Yara determined to keep her baby, and Terri provided her with information about local midwives who offer safe and affordable childbirth options.
"Atalaya," 21, came to the LifeHouse on Monday for a pregnancy test. She told Terri she had undergone an abortion at FPA several years ago. "I know it's the biggest mistake I ever made," Atalaya confessed. Terri said "I don't know if you would want to see it, but we have a video which shows what they did to you." Atalaya responded "I want to see it." After seeing the "Harder Truth," Atalaya was astonished. Atalaya told Terri that she had become frightened while she was on the abortion table, telling the abortionist "I don't want to go through with this," but before she knew it, she was waking up after the abortion, crying hysterically. She has gone through post-abortion counseling at the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center. She is now married, and for the past few years, they have been trying to have another baby, but she hasn't been able to become pregnant. Sadly, her test results were negative.
On Tuesday afternoon, Terri saw "Sibyl" coming down the stairs from the abortion mill waiting room. Terri offered to help her get a ride home, but she said she had already phoned home for a ride. "Were you here for an abortion?" Terri asked. "Yes, but I changed my mind," Sibyl said, "I just couldn't go through with it." Terri gave her a baby gift, a "Hope for the Future" Bible, and a hug.
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
As you meditate on this scripture today, ask God to help you to show His kindness to those who oppose you.
Pray that God will guard your lips, and lips of every volunteer who will be ministering to women today.
Ask God to protect "Judith" and her preborn baby (see report above), and to prevent Judith's mother from trying to abort Judith's child. (And also pray for the other people mentioned in the ministry reports.)
Pray that Renee (abortion chamber employee) will be convicted of her sin, and ask God to lead her to repent.
The connection between abortion and cerebral palsy, premature birth, breast cancer, and other health problems is documented by Canadian researcher Brent Rooney on his website (www.vcn.bc.ca/~whatsup). The information is also accessible from the LifeHouse website (LifeHouse.glorifyJesus.com/help).
