Video helps teenage girl recognize her "fetus" as a baby

Last Monday and Tuesday were busy (and fruitful) days at the LifeHouse. Meanwhile, across the street at the Family Planning Associates abortion chamber, abortionist Kenneth Wright killed many babies. Here are a few selected reports from last week's ministry activities:

  • On Tuesday afternoon, LifeSavers received a phone call from a woman who said she had seen LifeSavers phone book ad, and her 16-year-old daughter "Shaile" was planning to abort her baby. Shaile and her mother are "born again," and attend a non-denominational church. Shaile's mother had tried unsuccessfully to convince her to keep the baby, so she wanted to know if someone at LifeSavers could talk to her. Terri invited them to come to the LifeHouse, and they came immediately. Shaile was distant, saying "I don't want to deal with this, I'm too young." Terri asked her "what do you think right now about this baby?" Shaile said, "I don't think it's a baby-it's a fetus." Terri asked "what do you think a fetus is?" Shaile answered, "it's just nothing." Terri said, "if I can show you that what's inside you is a baby, will you reconsider your decision?" Shaile agreed. So Terri showed them the "Harder Truth" video. Afterwards, Terri said "now do you see that you have a baby?" Shaile replied "yeah." Terri then talked to Shaile about her goals for the future, and explained how abortion could hurt her physically and emotionally. As they prepared to leave, Terri inquired "how are you feeling now?" Shaile said, "I'm more confused than ever." Terri said "that's good, because you're not sure you want the abortion." Terri gave Shaile a baby gift and a "Hope for the Future" Bible. A few days later, Terri called Shaile and her mother, and they said that she now intends to give the baby to a couple who can't have children.

  • Terri, Susanna, Lillian, and Irene at the LifeHouse As "Susanna," 20, and "Lillian," 21, sat inside the abortion chamber's waiting room, waiting for Susanna to be called inside for an abortion, Irene was proclaiming the truth in Spanish from the sidewalk. "Let's get out of here," Susanna told Lillian. So they came out and told Terri, "we could hear you guys outside, and we didn't feel right about it, because we're both Christians." Terri invited them to come to the LifeHouse, where she showed them the "Harder Truth" video, and talked to them about the alternatives available. Susanna was hungry, because she had been told not to eat before the abortion, so Terri gave her some money. After several minutes of talking, they left, confident that they had made the right decision.

  • On Monday, a woman brought her daughter to the abortion chamber, declaring that she was having her tubes tied. When she saw Debbie's two daughters on the sidewalk, she berated Terri, "how dare you bring your children here!" Terri responded, "at least my children will be going home with me tonight, not going into a bucket in pieces." The woman angrily shouted "because of you people I have four grandchildren." She said that her daughter had come to FPA several years ago, and sidewalk counselors had turned her away. Terri exhorted the woman to thank God for her grandchildren.

  • "Jasmine" decided to call the Family Planning Associates abortion chamber on Wednesday. She just found out she is pregnant, and she felt like it was going to ruin her life. She has a new apartment and a new job, and was afraid that she would be fired for being pregnant. When the phone range, Terri answered, "LifeSavers." "This isn't Family Planning, is it?" Jasmine inquired. Terri said "no, but I'd like to talk to you." Jasmine said "that's ok, I'm sorry, I just dialed the wrong number." Terri said "are you calling to schedule an abortion?" She sheepishly replied, "yes." "Well, it's no accident that you called me," Terri insisted. "I can see that," Jasmine said. Jasmine had gone to a clinic on Tuesday for a gynecological problem, and was given antibiotics which they said could harm the baby. "It sounds like they just didn't care because you seemed poor," Terri said, and Jasmine agreed. Terri referred Jasmine to a pro-life obstetrician. After about 10 minutes of talking (on LifeSavers cell phone!) she seemed to have changed her mind, and she told Terri she may come to the LifeHouse this week.

  • When Terri started talking to a young man who was on the abortion chamber's balcony Tuesday morning, he said "leave me alone--I've been in jail, and I'm not afraid to go back!" After Terri calmed him down, he pointed to Chuck, saying "that guy called me a cannibal!" Terri found that hard to believe, so she asked Chuck about it. "No, bro, I said you'll be held 'accountable'! I'm glad I cleared that up!" Later, Chuck was able to get him to come down and take some literature (it was probably too late for this baby, but hopefully his future children will be saved).

  • "Gena," 22, brought her friend to the abortion chamber on Tuesday, and talked to Irene on the sidewalk. Irene brought her to the LifeHouse, where Terri gave her a pregnancy test, which was positive. Although Gena has attended a local Catholic church for several years, she contemplated abortion, because it is not her boyfriend's baby, and she was raped. Terri and Irene talked to her for a long time in the LifeHouse, and Gena was still unsure.

  • "Lisa," 18, was brought to the LifeHouse Monday for a pregnancy test by the housemother at a substance abuse rehabilitation home. Her test was negative, so Terri challenged her to "love your future husband enough to tell him that on August 21, 2000, you saved yourself for him, so that you would have a special wedding night." Lisa prayed out loud with Terri (Lisa said she is "born again").

Scripture Focus Luke 10:1-3

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves."

As you meditate on this scripture today, ask God to send out workers into His harvest field.

Prayer Focus
  • Pray that every sidewalk counselor will be able to put aside their other concerns and focus on the babies who are scheduled to die today, and on the needs of their mothers.

  • Ask God to help "Gena" (see report above) to make a firm decision not to abort her baby.

  • Pray that God's word which was proclaimed to abortionist Wright last week (Psalm 52) will pierce through his hardened heart, and that he will stop killing babies!
