Girl seeks abortion to hide pregnancy from mother, but chooses life
(and other ministry reports)
The LifeHouse was very busy on Monday and
Tuesday last week, while the abortion chamber was
slow on Monday and very busy on Tuesday (the
abortionist was Kenneth Wright). Here are a few
selected reports from last week's ministry
activities:
As "Mia," 16, walked into the abortion
chamber on Tuesday, Terri called her over and
asked if she was going to have an abortion; Mia
said "yes." Terri asked her if she would come to
rhe LifeHouse for a few minutes to talk. At the
LifeHouse, Terri showed Mia the "Harder Truth"
video, and Mia told Terri that the main reason
she was going to abort her baby was that she
didn't want to tell her mom that she was
pregnant. Her family attends a local Catholic
church. Terri gave her "Don't Panic" (a
pamphlet which explains how to tell your parents
you're pregnant) and a baby gift, and prayed for
her. Mia said she needed a ride, so Carlotta
brought her home.
"Fern" had scheduled an abortion early
Tuesday morning, but Carlotta talked to her
before she went in. Carlotta gave her a "Hope
for the Future" Bible, along with literature on
fetal development and the risks of abortion.
Carlotta also shared the Gospel with her. Fern
cried while Carlotta was talking to her, but she
still went in. But she soon came back out, and
left the abortion chamber with her sister.
Carlotta encouraged her to talk to her mother,
who is a Christian.
"Maribel," 17, came to the LifeHouse on
Monday for a pregnancy test with her boyfriend,
Manus. She has never been pregnant before, and
he said that she is pro-life. For several years
she has been attending a large local Southern
Baptist church, and she has been "born again."
When they saw that the test results were negative,
Maribel and Manus were both in tears. They
prayed with Terri, asking God to help them not to
have sex anymore until they are married.
"Maxine", 27, came to the LifeHouse on
Monday for a pregnancy test, which was positive.
She is a "born again" Christian, and she and her
husband have two children. Although she was
already pro-life, Terri offered to show her the
"Harder Truth" abortion video. After seeing the
video, Maxine was crying. She said she had read
pro-life literature and seen photographs before,
but she didn't realize until the she saw the
video just how bad it was.
"Adrian" works at a fast food
restaurant near the LifeHouse, and often walks by
the sidewalk counselors. On Tuesday, he stopped
and asked for Terri's opinion. He explained that
his girlfriend is pregnant with their second
baby, and he didn't think he could give his
second child everything like he did for his first
baby (who is about 1 year old). They have
always made sure that their baby was dressed in
the best brand-name clothes. Terri explained to
him the benefits of having more than one child,
and the risks of abortion. She also told Adrian
that she would pray for him, and gave him some
literature showing the development of the baby,
along with information about the LifeHouse.
"Moriah" aborted her baby on Tuesday
afternoon. After the abortion, she told Carlotta
she felt bad about it. She had sickle-cell
anemia and heart problems and her family and
doctor advised her to abort. Carlotta gave her
post-abortion literature and a Bible, and
encouraged her to abstain from sexual activity.
Moriah told Carlotta that she was a Christian,
and she wished she hadn't aborted her baby.
"Cori," 23, came to the LifeHouse for
a pregnancy test on Monday with Fillmore, her
live-in boyfriend, who is also the father of her
two children. She has attended a local Catholic
church for many years. Cori said she was likely
to abort if she were pregnant, but after Terri
showed her the "Harder Truth" video, she said "no
way!" She didn't realize what they do. Cori
asked Fillmore to come in and watch the video with
her again. After they saw that the test results
were negative, Fillmore and Cori prayed with
Terri to make a commitment to Jesus to stop
having sex until they marry (which they hope to
do within a year). Fillmore said he could go
back to live with his parents.

Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:1-16
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the
calling with which you have been called, with all
humility and gentleness, with patience, showing
forbearance to one another in love, being
diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in
the bond of peace. There is one body and one
Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope
of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one
baptism, one God and Father of all who is over
all and through all and in all. But to each one
of us grace was given according to the measure of
Christ's gift. Therefore it says,
"When He ascended on high,
He led captive a host of captives,
and He gave gifts to men."
(Now this expression, "He ascended," what
does it mean except that He also had descended
into the lower parts of the earth? He who
descended is Himself also He who ascended far
above all the heavens, that He might fill all
things.) And He gave some as apostles, and some
as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as
pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the
saints for the work of service, to the building
up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to
the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure
of the stature which belongs to the fulness of
Christ. As a result, we are no longer to be
children, tossed here and there by waves, and
carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the
trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful
scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are
to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the
head, even Christ, from whom the whole body,
being fitted and held together by that which
every joint supplies, according to the proper
working of each individual part, causes the
growth of the body for the building up of itself
in love.
[Ask God to help you walk in a manner worthy of
His calling as you minister in Christ's name
today.]

Prayer Focus
Pray that God will soften the hearts of the
women who enter the abortion chamber today, so
that as they receive the teddy bears and the
Bibles, their thoughts will be turned to the
precious child within them.
Ask God to help "Mia" (see report above) to
communicate effectively with her mother.
Ask God to convict you of the fulness of His
will for your life, so that you will follow Him
in every aspect of what he is calling you to do
to build up the body of Christ.

Youth group takes action against abortion
The youth group of St. Jude's Mission (a
mission of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Chapman
Street in Bakersfield) will be on the sidewalks
outside the abortion chamber on Tuesday praying
for the children who are scheduled to die, and for
their mothers. "We want to defend the babies and
give them justice," explained Hortencia Nevarez,
who leads the youth group with her husband Andres.
Last Friday, Tim and Terri Palmquist went to
the St. Jude's youth group meeting to talk to
about 30 teenagers about abortion and chastity.
"I wanted the kids to know about abortion, because
at one point of their lives, they'll be faced with
this, and they need to know it's not a choice,
it's a life," Hortencia said.
