Mom and daughter exclaim "We want to show you the baby you saved" (and other ministry reports)

Last Monday and Tuesday were busy abortion days in Bakersfield, with abortions committed by Kenneth Wright from Fresno. Here are a few selected reports from last week's ministry activities:

"Leah" and her mom(see Weekly Ministry Focus #24) returned to the LifeHouse on Tuesday, saying "we want to show you the baby you saved." They proudly presented ultrasound pictures of Leah's preborn child, and announced "it's a boy!"

"Tracy" was concerned that "Belinda" (her daughter's 15-year-old friend) might be pregnant, so she brought Belinda to the LifeHouse on Tuesday. Belinda insisted that she was not pregnant, but agreed to take a pregnancy test. Terri showed them the "Harder Truth" video while they waited for the results. Afterwards, Tracy confessed that she had aborted a baby 20 years ago, and said that the video brought all her old feelings back. She wished someone had been there for her. When they saw that the pregnancy test was negative, Terri and Tracy counseled Belinda not to have sex until she is married. Belinda agreed with Terri in prayer to remain abstinent. Terri gave Belinda abstinence literature and Tracy post abortion literature. (Tracy and Belinda attend a large local Assembly of God church.)

"Portia," an abortion chamber employee (see Weekly Ministry Focus #20), talked to Terri on Tuesday. She said that when girls ask her if the abortion will hurt, she says "yes" (which makes the other staff members angry). She is Catholic, and her family has been upset with her for working at the abortion chamber. She has given her notice to quit. Terri recalled that when Portia first came to work at the abortion chamber, she told Terri "I'll do more good inside than you'll do outside," but now Portia encourages Terri to "keep up the good work."

A teenage boy and girl left the abortion chamber quickly on Monday. Debbie asked if she changed her mind, and she nodded.

A young couple came to the abortion chamber on Tuesday, along with their three young children. Terri and Carlotta tried to talk to them as they entered. Later, Carlotta gave him a pamphlet designed for men dealing with abortion. He went back upstairs to talk to his wife. After a few minutes, she came out (without having the abortion). He held her hand, and they all left.

"Trina" (see Weekly Ministry Focus #26 and #27) was released on Thursday, and went home to be with her 18-month old daughter. After making several calls, Tim finally found a pastor who agreed to sponsor her drug tests for the first month. Trina continued to express frustration with the way the local jail is operated. "I put in a request for a Bible when I first came here, and I never received one, but when anyone says they want an abortion, they get one right away," she remarked. Trina also said that another prisoner she met in jail had been brought for an abortion, but she too changed her mind. (Editor's note: Trina's account of the difference between the way the jail handles Bible requests and abortion requests is very significant, when you consider the fact that Kern County Sheriff Carl Sparks is a Christian.)

On Monday, Debbie talked to a teenage girl and her mother as they entered the abortion chamber. Debbie knew them, and she knew that they attend a local Charismatic church, so she called the church, asking to speak to the pastor. He was not available at first, but several hours later (after several calls), he came to the abortion chamber and asked to speak with the girl. According to the pastor, the staff told him that there was nobody there by that name. Later, the girl and her mother left, after the baby had been aborted.

"June," 20, came to the LifeHouse on Monday for a pregnancy test. She is single, "pro-choice," and has attended a local Christian church for six years. She told Debbie that she does not want a baby now, and that she might abort the baby if she were pregnant. Thankfully, her test results were negative. Debbie encouraged her to be abstinent, and shared God's word with her. June said "I know."

"Doris," 25, came to the LifeHouse on Friday with her boyfriend for a pregnancy test. She attends a local Missionary Baptist church, and has an 8-year old girl. She told Carlotta "if I am pregnant, I will have an abortion." Her pregnancy test was negative. Carlotta gave them Bibles and abstinence literature, and encouraged Doris' boyfriend to go to church (he said he had not been to church for a long time).

    Scripture Focus: Luke 11:33-36

"No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead, he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you."

Ask God to help you to let His light shine through you today to everyone you encounter.

    Prayer focus

As women enter the abortion chamber, pray for each preborn child, asking God to protect them with His power and to be glorified throughout their lives.

Pray that God will guide "Portia" (see report above) into a new occupation which will glorify Him, and that He will lead her to use her abortion experience to help women who are considering abortion to choose life.

Ask God to unite the hearts of everyone involved in this ministry, so that those who observe our ministry activities will see God's love working in the relationships within our group.

    Supporters to receive final rewards

Two LifeSavers supporters went home to be with the Lord last week: Willa Lawler (Terri Palmquist's mother), and Cindy Alexander. Robert and Cindy have three small children; they had moved to Arkansas from Bakersfield a few years ago.

    Special instructions for this week:

Only "nice" signs (4-6) Main focus: sidewalk counseling One sidewalk counselor, talking to women even when they are walking across the balcony. Once women are inside, just pray.

    Special instructions for July 24-25:

No signs of any kind. Main focus: giving out Bibles and teddy bears.

This is part of a three-month experiment testing the effectiveness of various tactics. Thank you for cooperating with this effort.
