Prostitute's teenage daughter chooses life after seeing abortion video
Last week was a very difficult week for the
sidewalk counseling ministry and the LifeHouse, due
to the absence of Terri (who was at the side of her
infirm mother at a Utah hospital) and the shortage of
volunteers. Abortionist Kenneth Wright came late in
the afternoon on Monday, and stayed all day on
Tuesday. Here are a few selected reports from last
week's ministry activities:
On Monday, "Leah," 15, came with her mother to
the abortion chamber for an abortion. Apparently
nobody was on the sidewalk when they came in,
because of the shortage of volunteers. But while
Leah was inside having a sonogram to determine
the size of her baby, Leah's mother waited
outside. Debbie called Leah's mother over to the
sidewalk to talk, and offered to show her a video
at the LifeHouse so that she could she what
really happens during an abortion. Leah's mother
said "I'm going inside to get her," and brought
Leah to the LifeHouse. The sonogram had
determined that Leah was 18 weeks pregnant.
The abortion chamber staff had told Leah they
could start the "surgery" at 4:00, which was less
than an hour away. Leah told Tim that she
wanted an abortion because she was on probation
and she didn't want anyone to be able to take
away her baby. Leah's mother said that she has
had abortions, and that she originally had intended
to abort Leah. Leah's mother also mentioned
that she had recently been in jail for prostitution.
Debbie showed them the "Harder Truth" video.
Leah was very quiet after seeing the video. Tim
offered to give them a ride home. As they left,
Debbie gave Leah a "Hope for the Future" Bible.
About 30 minutes after they were brought home,
Leah called Debbie at the LifeHouse and said
"I'm definitely not going to do it." She said that
watching the video had changed her mind.
"Amos," 20, called LifeSavers on Thursday
asking for help, because his girlfriend (who is only
14) was being forced by her mother to have an
abortion. Tim asked Amos if he was concerned
that he may be charged with statutory rape, and
he said "I don't care about that, I just care about
the baby." He said that his girlfriend's mother
told him that he could go to jail for 10 years. Tim
consulted Life Legal Defense for advice on how
to stop the abortion, and called Amos back to
explain how the girl could make it clear to
everyone that she did not want an abortion. By
Friday, however, the girl's mother had apparently
convinced her to agree to abort the baby, even
though Amos and his mother signed a notarized
statement that they would provide for the baby's
needs. Terri talked to Amos' girlfriend Saturday
night, and she said that her primary reason for
aborting the baby is to protect Amos. She is
scheduled for an abortion on Tuesday. Terri
offered her a place to stay, and asked her to call
if she needs any help.
"Fidelia," 25, called the LifeHouse on Monday,
explaining that she was 19 « weeks pregnant,
and that she was scheduled for an abortion in Los
Angeles the next day. She said that her friend
told her that she should go to the LifeHouse to
see a video first, so she wondered when she
could see the video. Tim invited her to come to
the LifeHouse right away, and Fidelia came
immediately to the LifeHouse with her friend.
Debbie showed them the "Harder Truth" video,
and shared the Lord with them. Fidelia's friend
told Debbie that she attends a large local
Assembly of God church, and that she had an
abortion two years ago. She also said that she
will be bringing Fidelia to church with her soon.
After seeing the video, Fidelia said she would not
be going to LA the next day, and that she will not
abort her baby.
"Libby," 18, and "Cece," 18 went to a doctor in
downtown Bakersfield on Monday, asking for
pregnancy tests. The doctor suggested that they
should go to the LifeHouse. At the LifeHouse,
both girls told Tim that they were not married, but
that they would give birth to their babies if they
were pregnant. On her pregnancy test form,
Cece (who attends a small Bible church) wrote "I
plan to love my child, keep my child, and raise
him/her in the eyes of God." Both girls had
negative pregnancy tests, and were in a hurry to
leave because they were on their lunch break.
As they left, Tim gave them each some literature
on abstinence and secondary virginity. (Note: we
do not normally consider it to be appropriate for a
man to help women with pregnancy tests, but in
this situation, Tim was the only one available.
Tim's 12-year old daughter Amy was asked to
stay in the room as Tim talked to Libby and Cece
so that there would not be any appearance of
impropriety.)

Scripture Focus: 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
For though we live in the world we are not carrying
on a worldly war, for the weapons of our warfare
are not worldly but have divine power to destroy
strongholds. We destroy arguments and every
proud obstacle to the knowledge of God, and take
every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to
punish every disobedience, when your obedience is
complete.
[Whenever you are tempted to engage in idle
conversation during your ministry time, focus
your mind on this scripture.]

Prayer Focus
Ask Jesus to use the teddy bears and Bibles
to soften the hearts of women entering the
abortion chamber today.
Pray that "Amos" (see report above) will be
drawn closer to God, and pray that his girlfriend
will have courage and wisdom, and pray for God
to protect the life of their baby.
Pray for Donna (who assists with abortions)
to repent and ask God to turn her life into
something good.

Financial update
After Tim Palmquist called about 25 supporters
of LifeSavers Ministries to let them know about the
financial situation, donations to cover the lease
payment (along with phone bills) were received
within 48 hours. Thank you to everyone who
helped; God is using you to continue to make us
available to minister to women and babies in need.
