Baby saved after woman hears "mother's" voice inside waiting room
Here are a few selected reports from last week's
ministry activities:
As "Faustine" was waiting for an abortion inside
the waiting room, she heard Irene's voice calling
out from the sidewalk below, pleading in Spanish
for Jesus to save the baby. Faustine said that
Irene's voice sounded like her mother, so
Faustine left the abortion chamber, deciding to
keep her baby. Faustine had previously come to
the LifeHouse for a pregnancy test, and had seen
the "Harder Truth" video, but she didn't change
her mind until she heard Irene's voice.
"Casey," 15, came to the abortion chamber with
her boyfriend and with her friend "Kendra," 15.
Terri called Casey's boyfriend over and asked
him to give Casey some information, which he
did. Casey was too late for her appointment, so
they came to the LifeHouse. Terri showed them
the "Harder Truth" video. Kendra said that she
had already seen the video, and that she had
aborted her baby anyway; but she now regrets
the abortion. After seeing the video, Casey said
she still intends to abort her baby (her abortion is
now scheduled for Monday morning). Terri
gave Bibles to Casey and Kendra before they
left.
"Catherine," 40, came to the LifeHouse on
Tuesday for a pregnancy test after talking to a
sidewalk counselor. She has two grown
children, and is to be married soon. She attends
a large local Baptist church. Her test was
positive.
"Editha," 19, came to the LifeHouse on Wednesday
after seeing the "free pregnancy test" banner. She
told Carlotta that she attends a local Catholic
church, and is engaged to be married. Her test
results were negative.
"Cindra," called early Tuesday morning, wanting to
talk to someone about her situation. She had called
the Bakersfield Pregnancy Center, but was told by
the answering service that they were not open yet.
She is 3 « months pregnant with her sixth baby, and
her husband wants her to abort. She told Terri in
tears that she can't handle another baby right now,
financially or emotionally. Terri explained that God
has helped her to make it through similar situations.
Cindra said she would come to the LifeHouse to
talk to Terri more.

Scripture Focus: 1 Corinthians 15:50-58
I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and
blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor
does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep,
but we will all be changed -- in a flash, in the
twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the
trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised
imperishable, and we will be changed. For the
perishable must clothe itself with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
When the perishable has been clothed with the
imperishable, and the mortal with immortality,
then the saying that is written will come true:
"Death has been swallowed up in victory."
"Where, O death is your victory?
Where, O death is your sting?"
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin
is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us
the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let
nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully
to the work of the Lord, because you know that
your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
[Whenever you are tempted to engage in idle
conversation during your ministry time,
focus your mind on this scripture, asking
God to help you stand firm in Him.]

Prayer Focus
Pray that God will speak through every
sidewalk counselor today, and that everything
which is said will be motivated by God's love.
Pray that God will give "Cindra" (see report on
back page) a desire to keep her baby, and that
God will comfort her in the midst of her
difficulties.
Ask God to convict the hearts of everyone
who passes by, even though they will not be
seeing signs today. Pray that our presence will
be seen by all as an indication of God's concern
for preborn babies and their mothers.

Few attend Planned Parenthood event
The "Community Leaders' Breakfast" held by
Bakersfield's Planned Parenthood last Thursday was
attended by less than ten people. Most of those who
attended the breakfast gladly accepted the information
handed out by Carlotta Fondren, Terri and Tim
Palmquist, and Clare Aldrich. Several different pieces
of literature which expose Planned Parenthood's real
agenda and sordid history were distributed.
One person who notably refused to receive the
literature was Wendy Wayne, a well known Bakersfield
"children's advocate." A gentleman from a local pro-
life Presbyterian church who attended the breakfast
talked at length on the sidewalk after the breakfast
about his reasons for supporting Planned Parenthood
(focusing on their "educational" programs and the
"necessity" of legal abortions to prevent back-alley
abortions). He was challenged to consider the recent
history of Poland, which has proven to be improving
women's health by outlawing most abortions.

Special instructions for this week:
No signs of any kind.
Main focus: prayer
One sidewalk counselor, only offering literature.
If literature is refused, don't talk further.
Special instructions for June 12-13:
Only "nice" signs (4-6)
Main focus: sidewalk counseling
One sidewalk counselor, talking to women even
when they are walking across the balcony.
Once women are inside, just pray.
This is part of a three-month experiment testing the
effectiveness of various tactics. Thank you for
cooperating with this effort.

Terri Palmquist will not be available this week, and possibly
next week. She is at a Utah hospital with her mother, who
had a stroke and has been experiencing severe respiratory
distress requiring her to be intubated. The doctors say that
she is not likely to fully recover. Your prayers for Terri and
her mother are especially appreciated at this time. We
would also appreciate it if you would consider helping by
volunteering extra time while Terri is gone, as we are
extremely short-handed.
