Social worker encourages mentally ill girl to choose life
(and other ministry reports)
Here are a few selected reports from last week's
ministry activities:
A social worker called on Monday regarding one of
her clients, a 20 year old pregnant girl with mental
problems. The girl said that she wants to abort, but the
social worker was hoping to find ways to help her to
give birth to the baby. Terri referred her to His
Nesting Place maternity home and encouraged her to
call back if she needs additional assistance
"Shelley," 21, came to the LifeHouse on Tuesday for a
pregnancy test. She said that she is a Christian, but is
not currently attending a church. Terri showed her the
"Harder Truth" video, but Shelley couldn't finish
watching it. She had a baby 2 1/2 years ago, but she
told Terri that she is not sure what to do about this
pregnancy. Her test results were positive, so Terri
gave her a Bible and a baby outfit.
"Lona," 43, came to the LifeHouse on Monday for a
pregnancy test. Although she spoke only Spanish,
Terri was able to communicate with her enough to find
out that she is single and attends a local Catholic
church. Her last pregnancy (which may have been
twins) ended with an abortion at 10 weeks. The
abortion was committed somewhere on Union Avenue,
but the clinic is gone. After Terri showed the "Harder
Truth" video to Lona and the older woman who
accompanied her, they were both in tears. She said
that if she is pregnant this time, she will give birth to
the baby. However, her test results were negative.
"Cameron," 19, and her 14-year-old sister, came to the
Bakersfield Pregnancy Center from Shafter on
Wednesday for pregnancy tests, but the BPC staff told
them that their schedule was full, and suggested that
they go to the LifeHouse. Cameron told Terri that she
has attended a non-denominational church. Their
results were both negative, so Terri talked to them
about abstinence.
"Madra," 21, came with a friend to the LifeHouse on
Wednesday for a pregnancy test. She told Terri that
she is Catholic and this is her first pregnancy. Her test
results were positive, so Terri gave her a baby outfit
and a Bible. Madra said that she will give birth to the
baby. Her friend said that she had an abortion in
November and regrets it. Terri gave her post-abortion
healing literature.

Scripture Focus: Proverbs 24:1-12
Do not envy wicked men,
do not desire their company;
for their hearts plot violence,
and their lips talk about making trouble.
By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.
A wise man has great power,
and a man of knowledge increases strength;
for waging war you need guidance,
and for victory many advisers.
Wisdom is too high for a fool;
in the assembly at the gate he has nothing to say.
He who plots evil
will be known as a schemer.
The schemes of folly are sin,
and men detest a mocker.
If you falter in times of trouble,
how small is your strength!
Rescue those being led away to death;
hold back those staggering toward slaughter.
If you say, "But we knew nothing about this,"
does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?
Does not he who guards your life know it?
Will he not repay every person
according to what he has done?
[heart] As you meditate on this scripture today, ask God
to strengthen you so that you will not falter.

Prayer Focus
Pray that every volunteer will focus their attention
on God today, bringing each situation and every
obstacle before His throne. Pray that even in the
midst of the most hateful opposition, this attitude of
prayer will prevail.
Ask God to help "Shelley" (see report above) deal
positively with her pregnancy and with her other
relationships. Pray that she will not abort the baby.
Pray that God will thwart the plans of "Planned
Parenthood-Mar Monte," and that even while they
hold meetings this week to promote their agenda here
in Bakersfield, their appeal will fall on deaf ears.
Even though we will not be using signs today, ask
God to convict those who pass by to submit to the
Gospel of Life in the midst of this culture of death.

Bakersfield Planned Parenthood hosts community meetings
The Bakersfield office of Planned Parenthood will host
a "Community Leaders' Breakfast" on Thursday, June 1, from
7:30 am to 8:30 am at 2535-16th Street, Suite 100.
Various community leaders have been sent a letter
welcoming them to this "informal breakfast meeting at the
health center" to "hear from ... staff and volunteers, ask
questions, and share ideas." The letter states that "in recent
years, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte-Bakersfield Center has
vastly extended the scope and size of our programs, adding
new services ... as needs and opportunities have arisen.... We
want to make sure that our friends and allies keep up-to-date
on our full range of services."
Planned Parenthood is also co-sponsoring a "Listening
Session," on Tuesday, May 30 from 9:30 am to noon at the
Kern County Beale Memorial Library Auditorium, 701
Truxtun Avenue. The invitation to the meeting states that it
is intended to "deepen our understanding of the critical
reproductive health needs and issues that face the women and
girls of your community" and to "develop a cadre of well-
informed and pro-active reproductive health and rights leaders
from diverse backgrounds."
Although the Bakersfield office of Planned Parenthood
does not currently commit abortions, they refer women to
FPA in Bakersfield for abortions, and to the Fresno Planned
Parenthood abortion chamber. Planned Parenthood is the
nation's leading abortion profiteer coalition. For various
reasons, it is believed that Planned Parenthood is gearing up
to begin committing abortions in Bakersfield.
If you would like to help ensure that participants in these
Planned Parenthood meetings are truly "well-informed" about
Planned Parenthood's gory agenda, call 323-2229.

ACLU supports murderer abortionist
A study by the ACLU alleges that bias by state medical
officials played a role in murder charges being filed against
abortionist Bruce Steir, 69, who killed a woman with a
botched legal abortion at a MorenoValley abortion chamber
in 1996. State officials dismissed the allegations Wednesday,
calling it a flawed review and a rehash of arguments that
failed Steir's defense team in court.

"Partial birth" abortion chamber to close
The abortion chamber in Nebraska which lies at the heart
of the Supreme Court challenge to the state's partial-birth
abortion ban is to be forced to close. A partnership including
local Senator Paul Hartnett has purchased the building which
houses Dr LeRoy Carhart's facility and the doctor has been
given six months to move out.
