At least four babies saved during busy ministry week
At least four babies were saved from
abortion through
last week's ministry activities. On Monday, a record
number of women came for free pregnancy tests. Terri
often had to go to the LifeHouse for pregnancy tests, which
sometimes meant that there was no English-speaking
sidewalk counselor outside the abortion chamber. Here
are
a few selected reports:
"Jasmine," 20, and "Kerry," 20, came to
the
LifeHouse for pregnancy tests.
They were brought by
a friend who had been to the
LifeHouse a year ago.
Jasmine attends a local Mennonite
Brethren church,
Kerry attends a nearby Charismatic
church. As they
waited for the test results, Terri
showed them the
"Harder Truth"
video. The friend who had come to
the LifeHouse last year had seen the
previous version,
"Hard Truth." She
said "be sure to have tissues for
everyone." Both pregnancy
tests were negative. Terri
prayed with Jasmine and her friends,
asking God to
help them to save themselves for
their future
husbands. Kerry broke into
tears, sobbing "I fail God
all the time, but I really want to
be abstinent." Kerry
re-committed her life to the
Lord. Jasmine didn't want
to make a commitment to be
abstinent, because she
really loves her boyfriend and
they're "good together."
"Toni" came to the abortion chamber for an
abortion.
She was 11 weeks pregnant.
Terri talked to her about
the development of her baby and the
risks of abortion,
and said "I would be willing to
adopt your baby."
When Terri said that, Toni stopped
and said "you
would really adopt my
baby?" Toni wrote down
Terri's phone number, and said she
would call her.
Terri gave her a "Hope for the
Future" Bible, along
with a baby gift, and she drove
away.
"Tobey," 26, came to the LifeHouse for a pregnancy
test. She is not married, but
she has been with the
same man for six years. She
has seven children, and
had two abortions in the past five
years. Debbie gave
her information about the risks of
abortion and the
development of her baby, and also
provided post-
abortion help and conveyed the
gospel. Tobey told
Debbie that she would give birth to
the baby.
However, Tobey's test was
negative. Debbie provided
her with abstinence literature, and
talked to her about
remaining abstinent.
"Jensine," 29, noticed the "Free Pregnancy
Test"
banner and came to the LifeHouse for
a pregnancy
test, which was positive. She
is married, but is
pregnant from another man who
doesn't want anything
to do with her now. Her
husband was in jail at the
time for a minor driving
violation. Jensine said she is
pro-choice and isn't sure what she
is going to do about
this pregnancy. Terri showed
her the "Harder Truth"
video and talked with her
briefly. On her way out,
Terri hugged her and gave her a baby
gift, but she had
to be a bit rushed because others
were waiting for
pregnancy tests. Terri is
following up with Jensine
by phone.
"Euphemia," 25, happened to stop by the
LifeHouse on Friday when Terri was
giving
pregnancy tests. She speaks
only Spanish, and
she attends a local Catholic
church. Terri called
Irene to speak to her in
Spanish. Her test was
positive, but Euphemia is afraid to
go to a doctor,
because she and her husband are not
here legally.
Terri called a local midwife who
will help
Euphemia.
"Selma," 17, drove by the LifeHouse on Thursday,
and
stopped by for a pregnancy
test. She said she is pro-
choice and "born
again." She attends a local
Missionary Baptist church. She
told Carlotta that she
will keep the baby.
"Jean" (see last week's Weekly Ministry Focus) came
to the abortion chamber again,
intending to abort her
baby. Once again, she changed
her mind and left. She
thanked Terri for the "Hope for
the Future" Bible she
had given her last week.

Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 1:5-8
"Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you,
And before you were born I
consecrated you;
I have appointed you a prophet to
the nations."
Then I said, "Alas, Lord
God!
Behold, I do not know how to speak,
Because I am a youth."
But the Lord said to me,
"Do not say, 'I am a youth,'
Because everywhere I send you, you
shall go,
And all that I command you, you
shall speak.
Do not be afraid of them,
For I am with you to deliver
you," declares the
Lord.
[heart] Ask God to help you not to be afraid of those you
speak to today. Meditate on this scripture,
thanking God for calling you to deliver His message;
ask God to guard your lips from idle conversation.

Prayer Focus
Pray that God will allow the sidewalk counselors to
focus on each woman who is entering the abortion
chamber today, and that the Holy Spirit will help the
sidewalk counselors to sense their needs.
Pray for "Jensine" (see report above) and
her
husband, asking God to guide them and give them
wisdom and love for each other and for her preborn
baby.
Pray for Gaye Siemon, office manager in the
abortion chamber. Ask God to convict her of her sin,
and her need for Jesus.
Thank God for providing for the financial needs of
LifeSavers Ministries and the LifeHouse (see report
below).

LifeSavers Ministries to test effectiveness of various
tactics
by Terri Palmquist
For the next three months, starting
in May, LSM will
start doing things a little different that normal.
Usually LSM
lets each person do what they feel God wants them to do, and
this has proven to be fruitful, with an average of two babies
a week being kept alive. But, because of our critics,
we have
decided to try a little experiment, and each week we will
have
a main focus and at the end of July we will see which tactics
were more fruitful.
So, with that in mind, we are asking
all of the volunteers
to please cooperate with the schedule and not to take offense
if you can't do things the way you always have. If it
helps to
save babies, then I'm all for it. If it doesn't, then
we will go
back to the way we have always done it. Please bear
with me
during this time.
Proposed schedule:
May
1-2: No signs of any kind.
Main focus: prayer
One sidewalk counselor, only offering literature.
If literature is refused, don't talk further.
May
8-9: Only "nice" signs (4-6)
Main focus: sidewalk counseling
One sidewalk counselor, talking to women even
when they are walking across the balcony.
Once women are inside, just pray.
May 15-16: No signs of any kind.
Main focus: giving out Bibles and teddy bears.
May 22-23: Normal
May 29-30: No signs
June

June 12-13: Only "nice" signs
June 19-20: No signs, Bibles and Bears
Youth emphasis (survivors of abortion)

Donors' help improves LSM finances
LifeSavers Ministries' financial
condition
was explained in last week's Weekly Ministry Focus,
emphasizing the fact that the $1400 monthly lease for
the LifeHouse was due on April 15. Terri Palmquist
also called a few donors asking for assistance.
Three donors responded generously,
providing enough money to make the lease payment,
and to pay several other outstanding bills for
LSM.
Thank you to those who responded, and to those who
took this matter to the Lord in prayer!

Australian baby briefly survives abortion
A coroner in Darwin, Australia, has
commended
midwife nurse Carrie Williams for her care of an aborted
baby unexpectedly born alive after between 21 and 22 weeks
gestation. Facing a moral dilemma, and without any direction
from the doctor involved, she covered the child and kept
him/her warm until he/she died some 80 minutes later. The
cause of death was found to be "premature
delivery."

A Birthday Party for life
When Esther Boozer recently sent out
invitations for her birthday party, she included this note:
"No gifts please. If you would like to send a
donation:
LifeSavers Ministries P.O. Box 40972 Bakersfield, CA
93384-0972." Over $100 in gifts were given to LSM
as
a result of the party (and the checks came just at the
time of LSM's critical financial need).
Esther writes "I'm now working
on a raffle to
collect funds for your ministry. May God continue to
bless all your efforts for the innocent."
Thank you, Esther. And, happy
birthday!
