As Carolyn and Terri interceded outside Bakersfield’s FPA abortion center on Monday, November 7, the day after the end of the Fall 2011 40 Days for Life campaign, they noticed that the blinds had just been opened in the last waiting room upstairs. This is the room where women wait for their names to be called so that they may go downstairs to lay on an abortion table.

Carolyn and Terri decided to recite Deuteronomy 30:19 together: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” Meanwhile, a man holding a sign depicting the Virgin Mary walked up next to them.

Later that morning, a young woman left the abortion center, saying “just before my name was called, I looked outside and saw two ladies with a Bible and a man holding a sign with the Virgin Mary on it. When I saw that, I knew that they were praying for me, and I realized that what I was doing was wrong. Thank you for being here!”
