Baby saved by encounter with abortion-minded sister
After "Jaleesa" exited Bakersfield’s FPA abortion business Tuesday morning, she encountered Christians who were praying on the sidewalks as part of the 40 Days for Life campaign, including Terri and Amparo. Although she attends a local Baptist church, Jaleesa told Terri and Amparo that she still intended to go through with the abortion because she already has one baby and she is going to school.
After a brief conversation, Jaleesa agreed to allow Amparo to give her a ride home. Amparo sensed God leading her to give some money to Jaleesa, although she didn’t ask her for anything. A few days later, Jaleesa told Amparo that she didn’t have enough money to pay a utility bill. Amparo’s initial response to this need was cautious: she told Jaleesa that she would see what she could do and call her back in a day or two.
When Amparo called back, Jaleesa’s mother answered. As Amparo talked with her about Jaleesa’s situation, Jaleesa’s mother became irate, telling Amparo, "why are you trying to convince her to keep the baby? I want her to have an abortion!"
Amparo arranged to meet Jaleesa’s mother at St. Francis Church to give her money for the utility bill. Standing outside St. Francis Church, Amparo shared her story with Jaleesa’s mother, explaining how she could never have children because of the complications from her own abortion many years ago.
As Amparo shared her story, Jaleesa’s mother began to experience a change of heart, crying, "oh my goodness, what I have I done to my daughter?"
Then Jaleesa’s mother made a startling confession to Amparo, "Jaleesa isn’t the only one who is pregnant. I’m pregnant too, and we were both going to have abortions!"
Filled with regret over her decision which almost cost her the life of her own child and grandchild, Jaleesa’s mother went in to the chapel at St. Francis Church to pray for forgiveness.
