Nevada woman decides not to abort her baby

Abortions were committed in Bakersfield on Monday (Jan. 29) and Tuesday (Jan. 30) at the Family Planning Associates abortion chamber. Kenneth Wright was the abortionist. The "pregnancy evangelism" ministry on the sidewalks and at the LifeHouse pregnancy help center across the street was led by Monica (from Santa Maria) and Beth (from Fresno), who traveled to Bakersfield to help so that LSM leader Terri Palmquist could get some rest after giving birth to her ninth child, Samuel. At least three babies were reportedly saved from the abortionist's knife.

A young woman from Nevada had scheduled an abortion on Monday, but changed her mind. Monica brought her to the LifeHouse. She told Monica that she would definitely keep the baby. Amber* gave her a ride to her mother's house in Bakersfield.

"Tamara," 24, came to the LifeHouse on Monday for a pregnancy test, after seeing a LifeSavers phone book ad. She is married, but she said she wasn't sure what she would do if she is pregnant. Her test was positive. After talking to Monica, she decided to look into adoption. She told Monica that she will come back on Monday, February 5, to talk to her more about her alternatives.

"Joanne," 33, came to the LifeHouse for help on Monday. She is four months pregnant, and has a five month baby. She had talked to a sidewalk counselor previously when she was at the abortion chamber, and had been told that she could come to the LifeHouse for help. Joanne is not married, and is not interested in getting married. She has had many abortions in the past, but said she doesn't want to do that anymore. Monica gave her a referral to the Hope Center, so that she can get some of the things she needs. Monica also gave her literature on abstinence.

A woman stopped and talked to Beth on the sidewalk for a long time on Tuesday. She said that when she was 15, her father made her abort. Beth shared the Lord with her, and offered post-abortion help and information on Natural Family Planning.

"Cynthia," 17, came with her boyfriend to the LifeHouse for a pregnancy test on Monday, after seeing a phone book ad. She said she is "born again," but was not sure what she would do if she is pregnant. Even after Amber showed them a video about abortion, Cynthia's boyfriend was still wanting her to abort the baby, but he said it is her choice. Cynthia didn't seem to want an abortion, but said she is scared to tell her parents that she is pregnant, because they don't know that she has been sexually active. Amber offered to go with her to tell her parents, if she thought it would make it easier. Amber gave Cynthia literature on fetal development and the risks of abortion.

Beth talked to "Jim," 27, on Monday as he was walking by the abortion chamber. He said his girlfriend is considering abortion. Beth gave him literature on fetal development and the risks of abortion, and shared the Gospel with him. Afterwards, he said he would share the literature with his girlfriend and encourage her to keep the baby.

"Rae," 20, and her boyfriend came to the abortion chamber on Monday. She was 16 1/2 weeks pregnant. Her boyfriend, a Marine, told Monica and Beth that Rae is doing drugs, so he felt she should abort the baby. Monica and Beth shared the Gospel with them, and gave them literature on fetal development and abortion risks. After the discussion, it seemed to Monica and Beth that they may keep the baby.

Scripture Focus: 2 Timothy 4:1-8

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Ask God to give you the strength to be prepared for ministry in season and out of season, and to continue fighting the good fight.

Prayer Focus
  • Ask God to bless and protect every person involved in the "pregnancy evangelism" ministry today.
  • Pray that God will give "Tamara" wisdom (see report above) so that she knows what would be best for her baby.
  • Pray for Sylvia, who has been an employee in the office of the FPA abortion chamber for several years. Ask God to bring her to repentance and to the realization of her need for Jesus.

Newspaper reader responds to "babies rescued" headline

Editor's note: The following letter was sent to the editor of the Bakersfield Californian on Tuesday.

When I opened Tuesday's (1-30) paper, the headline actually had a happy message: "Two babies rescued". It was about the 7 month old girl and 8 month old boy rescued from the rubble of the Indian earthquake, after days of searching. The story reports each had relatives to welcome them.

Whenever I hear the term: "babies rescued" as a woman with strong pro-life convictions, I automatically think in terms of babies not aborted. Even before I read the story, I couldn't help think that it was ironic that the Californian would loudly proclaim this miracle from around the world, and yet ignore here in Bakersfield, babies and their mothers who are rescued from the local abortion clinic, by pro-life people who care. I personally know Tim and Terri Palmquist of Life House across the street from the abortion clinic. I have met women who changed their minds after being offered help during a time when a pregnancy was not planned. I've also met their precious babies. These mothers were very grateful that someone was there to rescue them. Many have found that family members were more than happy once the baby was "here". This has been true several times in our extended family, and we can't imagine our lives without these unplanned babies, some who are now grown, leading productive lives, with families of their own. I'm sure many readers have the same experience.

Yes, I celebrate with the rest of the world these innocents rescued in India. But I also celebrate the ones here in Bakersfield who are alive with us because someone cared, and put their belief into action.

I couldn't help think, maybe there is a newspaper in Heaven that proclaims everyday when a mother is persuaded to give life, "Two babies rescued!". Who knows?
