Weekly Ministry Focus
Pregnant woman goes full circle

Glory to God for saving at least three babies from abortion last week through the "pregnancy evangelism" ministry at the LifeHouse pregnancy center and across the street on the sidewalks outside the FPA abortion chamber. Kenneth Wright committed abortions on Monday (March 12) and Tuesday (March 13). Here are a few selected reports from last week's ministry activities:

"Shailey" phoned a national pregnancy hotline last week, hoping to find out where she could have a late-term abortion (the Family Planning Associates abortion chamber had told her she was too far along to abort her baby). The hotline encouraged Shailey to call LifeSavers.

Terri* spoke to Shailey when she called, saying "we want to help you give life to your baby." When Terri started to give Shailey the address of the LifeHouse, Shailey said, "I know where you are; you're across the street from the abortion clinic, right?" Shailey explained that she had come to the LifeHouse in December for her pregnancy test. At the time she wasn't considering abortion, but when she recently broke up with her boyfriend, "everything changed."

Shailey has a 1 1/2 year old baby and said she can't imagine raising another baby without a daddy. Terri continued to reassure Shailey, offering to care for the baby if Shailey was unable to do so. By the end of the call, Shailey assured Terri that she wouldn't abort!

"Marti," 17, and her 16-year-old sister took the bus downtown last Tuesday, and then walked to the abortion chamber. Terri approached them as they walked across the street at the corner of 25th and H.

Marti told Terri that she scheduled an abortion because she was afraid that her 21-year-old boyfriend would be charged with statutory rape. Marti's mother had told Marti and her sister that if they were to ever get pregnant outside of marriage, she would have their boyfriends thrown in jail!

Terri began to weep, begging Marti not to abort her baby. "Please don't do this," Terri cried, "you will regret this for the rest of your life." Marti and her sister began wiping tears from their eyes. Terri invited them to the LifeHouse where she showed them a video about abortion. After talking with them for close to an hour, Terri prayed with them and gave Marti a baby gift. Marti cancelled her abortion appointment, but she still wasn't sure what she was going to do. Please pray for her.

"Dee," 20, returned to the abortion chamber for the second time on Tuesday (see Weekly Ministry Focus Vol. 2 No. 10), but when an ultrasound indicated that she is pregnant with twins, she changed her mind again. Her boyfriend had accompanied her to the abortion chamber this time, and he became upset when he found out that once again Dee didn't go through with killing his children!

Terri invited him to watch a video about abortion at the LifeHouse, and he surprised Terri by accepting her invitation. He told Terri that he wanted to work on their relationship before having a baby. Terri explained that an abortion will damage their relationship, so if he wants their relationship to continue, he should encourage Dee to keep the baby. He responded very politely to Terri's counsel, but the very clammy handshake he gave Terri as he left indicated that he was very nervous about the encounter.

"Cathie," a homeless woman, was walking by FPA and began talking to Beth on the sidewalk. She admitted that she has been struggling with mental illness and substance abuse for 20 years, explaining that she thought that her problems were related to post-abortion syndrome.

Cathie told Beth that she has a friend who is contemplating abortion, and asked Beth for literature on fetal development. Beth encouraged Cathie to seek post-abortion healing.

Beth noticed "Serrin" was having trouble starting her car. While Beth tried unsuccessfully to jump-start her car, she was able to talk to Serrin. "Were you picking up someone here?" Beth asked. "It's for me," Serrin admitted. Beth gave Serrin literature about fetal development and information about local help available, but Serrin was reluctant to talk about the situation.

"Denise," 36, stopped to talk to Beth on the sidewalk. Denise began to cry, explaining that she is 7 months pregnant and is keeping her baby, but she didn't know how to tell her family. Beth encouraged her by reminding her that Jesus knows that she is pregnant, and He will help her through this pregnancy. Denise said she needed maternity clothes, so Beth sent her to the LifeHouse. At the LifeHouse, Terri gave her maternity clothes, along with a referral to the Hope Center. Terri also encouraged Denise to come back after she has the baby for more baby clothes. As Denise left the LifeHouse, her tears had been replaced by a smile.

"Vena," 23, came to the LifeHouse on Tuesday with her friend "Ramie" for a pregnancy test. Vena told Terri that she had been a virgin until a month ago. Ramie brought Vena to the LifeHouse because Vena had told Ramie that she would abort if she found out she was pregnant. Ramie hoped that by bringing Vena to the LifeHouse, her baby would be saved in the same way that Ramie's own child had been saved last year.

Ramie had been entering the abortion chamber last year, when her boyfriend convinced her to come to the LifeHouse. After watching a video about abortion, Ramie had decided not to abort her baby. Ramie is now five months pregnant.

The video also helped Vena to change her mind. But after seeing the video, Vena found out that her test was negative. Terri gave Vena literature about abstinence, and prayed with Vena and Ramie before they left.

Scripture Focus: Ephesians 4:25-32

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Ask God to help you to balance telling the truth in love and being angry without sinning.
