Weekly Ministry Focus
Pregnant woman tricks her husband, saving her preborn baby's life

For the fourth week in a row, abortionist Kenneth Wright traveled to Bakersfield last week to commit abortions on Monday and Tuesday. Young women from Bethany Ministries joined the regular pregnancy evangelists on the sidewalk, praying and ministering to those who were entering the death chamber. Meanwhile, several people came across the street to the LifeHouse to hear the truth. Here are a few selected reports from last week's ministry activities:

When "Adelaide," 26, told her husband "Don" last week that she was pregnant, he angrily shot back "get rid of it!" Then he made phone calls to find out how much an abortion would cost. Adelaide called the LifeHouse on Monday morning, telling Terri* that she was going to abort her baby. Adelaide explained that she has attended a local Pentecostal church for 10 years, and her pastor counseled her against abortion, but she didn't know what else to do. Terri encouraged Adelaide to come to the LifeHouse with Don so that they could see the "Harder Truth" abortion video.

"If I'm going to go through this, you're going to see what really happens!" Adelaide told Don. Then Adelaide deceived Don by saying, "I have an appointment with a doctor who specializes in this, so I need you to come with me." In less than an hour, Adelaide, Don, and their two- year-old son were in the LifeHouse counseling room.

After watching the video, Don stubbornly folded his arms, refusing to talk, while Adelaide cried softly. "I don't know why you brought me here," he said, glaring at Adelaide. "Why don't you tell them the truth?" He then accused Adelaide of intentionally becoming pregnant, and quitting her job so that she could stay home with their son. "I work my ____ off for this family, and you know that we can't afford another baby." (Don earns $50,000 per year, and they have two nice cars.) Tim* challenged Don to reconsider his priorities, explaining that he and Terri are raising nine children with a much smaller income.

"Some day I want a lot more kids, but just not right now," Don said. "I don't want my kids to live in poverty." He explained that they plan to move closer to his family, so he will soon be quitting his job. Tim said, "God puts us into situations like this so that we have to depend on Him."

Adelaide complained that Don doesn't go to church with her. "I usually can't go to church because I need to work, and on my days off I like to go to the gym," Don explained. Terri asked, "If you died today, do you know where you'd go?" "In the ground," Don said. Terri told him that if he surrenders to Jesus, he can spend eternity with his wife and children.

After about an hour of conversation, Don said "I don't know why we're still talking, she's not going to do it anyway." Terri asked "you don't really want that to happen to your child either, do you?" Don said "no."

As they left, Terri gave Adelaide a "Hope for the Future" Bible, a baby outfit and a baby gift. Then Terri thanked Don for talking, saying "you probably felt like we were ganging up on you."

On Monday evening, Terri called Don and Adelaide. Don answered, sounding surprisingly cheerful. Adelaide thanked Terri several times, saying "things are a lot better now that everything's out in the open."

"Justina," 18, came from Rosamond with her friend "Juanita," who had scheduled an abortion on Monday. While Juanita was inside the abortion chamber, Justina came to the LifeHouse for a pregnancy test. She told Terri that she has attended a Baptist church for 7 years, but she is "pro-choice." While Justina waited for the results, Terri showed her the "Harder Truth" video. "I can see now that there's no way I could do that," Justina said. Justina's test indicated that she is pregnant.

Three hours later, Juanita came out of the abortion chamber. Her baby had not been aborted: she was told that she would need to go to Los Angeles for the abortion, because she was 18 weeks pregnant. She intended to go to Los Angeles on Wednesday, but instead she has now decided to move back in with her parents, who are against abortion.

Justina told Terri on Saturday that she is glad that Juanita is keeping the baby. Justina has no insurance, so she plans to look for public assistance on Monday.

"Stephanie," 31, came from Delano to the LifeHouse for a pregnancy test on Tuesday. The results were negative. Stephanie explained that her sister "Angeline" had come to Bakersfield for an abortion about two years ago, but repented. Angeline also came to the LifeHouse last year for a pregnancy test, which was positive. She again chose life for her baby. Angeline now has a little boy and girl, and is happily married.

"Azalea" and "Rimona", both 18, came to the LifeHouse for pregnancy tests on Monday. They both attend local Catholic churches. While they waited for the results, Terri prayed for them. "Just please be negative!" Azalea said. After seeing that both of their tests were negative, Rimona committed to abstinence, but Azalea said "now we just need to be more careful!" Terri said "being 'careful' will end up with being pregnant, and you were thinking of having your baby killed! The Bible says that the road to life is narrow, and few will find it. If few find it, do you think you'll be one of them if you deliberately go against God's plan?" Terri gave them abstinence literature as they left.

Chuck (an independent volunteer with Bethany Ministries) brought "Dodie" to the LifeHouse to see the "Harder Truth" video while her friend "Nolita" was having an abortion. Later "Nolita" came with Dodie back to the LifeHouse. Tim gave them refreshments, and Terri talked to Nolita about her abortion, encouraging her to repent. Nolita said that she had stopped breathing during the abortion. They had planned to take the bus home (even though the abortion chamber is supposed to make sure women have rides home after abortions), but because of Nolita's physical condition, Tim gave them a ride home.

On Monday, Skip with Tabitha's House dropped off four large slushes for the sidewalk counselors. Thanks, Skip!

Scripture Focus: 1 John 5:14-19

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of him.

If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

[As you meditate on this scripture, pray for those you encounter today who are in sin, asking God to lead them away from the path of death to life.]

Prayer Focus
  • Ask God to unite the hearts of everyone involved in the sidewalk ministry, so that we will be more effective in the work He has called us to.

  • Pray that "Don" and "Adelaide" (see report above) will draw closer to each other, and that Don will surrender to God. (Also pray for the other people mentioned in the ministry reports.)

  • Pray that God will motivate many people to talk to their local doctors about the abortion pill, so that the doctors will not participate in these killings.

  • Pray for the new (Catholic) security guard. Ask God to convict her, so that she turns away from participating in this evil. Thank God for the guards He has sent away from this killing center recently.

LSM launches abortion pill project

Last week, LifeSavers Ministries mailed out hundreds of letters, asking local Christians to participate in an effort to reach out to local doctors, making them aware of their concerns about the abortion pill. In order for this effort to be successful, it must first be a fact-finding mission, seeking to identify doctors who may consider participating in abortions; then, after the facts are in, participants are asked to use the opportunity to speak out against abortion, and to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you didn't receive a letter regarding this effort, ask Tim for a copy, or go to:
